Knowing What We Already Have
2 Pet 1:2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue (NKJV)
This verse clearly states that peace comes to us through the knowledge of Jesus, in other words, through knowing Him. The peace of God does not come by praying for it. The more we get to know God, the more His peace will rule our hearts. As we meditate upon His word, spend time in His wonderful presence, our minds will start thinking on how great and big He is, and how small our problems really are! The key is our thoughts.
Prov 23:7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. (NKJV)
Stinking Thinking
If we dwell upon our bad circumstances, continually thinking about the worst possible outcome, walking in our unbelief, something’s got to be wrong if we don’t become depressed!! Proverbs says that a man will be as he thinks in his heart. When we are thinking upon our great God, occupying our thoughts with His love, His promises and delighting yourself in Him, it will not be long before His Kingdom will invade ours, bringing with it heaven’s resources, including healing, deliverance, prosperity and joy!
It is a choice though. We have to CHOOSE what we think about. Yes we can control our thoughts:
Col 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. (NKJV)
We have to LET God’s peace rule in our hearts, we can actually choose not to let it rule.
So if we are depressed, discouraged or living life daily, worrying about our “uncontrollable” circumstances, remember it all starts with our thoughts. We change our thinking by spending time in the Word of God, and learning to know Him. When we dwell upon the Lord, it won’t be long before the peace of God invades and overtakes our problems!
Isaiah 26:3 You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.
